Working Out with Jillian Michaels

Jillian MichaelsWe have the P90x DVDs somewhere in my house but since things still aren’t put together from moving in/re-doing our house, I can’t find them. So yesterday morning I went on Netflix (since we’re members) and searched for good fitness DVDs that I could do. When I saw the Jillian Michaels series of DVDs I thought I’d give it a try because I’d seen her story on television and she used to be bigger and just dieted/worked out until she was at her goal. She also seems pretty normal, as far as body image goes. So I did the “Jillian Michaels: Cardio Kickbox” DVD and at the beginning she said it was really hard and I thought “yeah right.” Well at the end of the DVD I was really sweating and panting so it must have been a good work out! And I was sore this morning. Now, I did this DVD after running a mile so I would say it helped me get through it because I was loose and ready to go. But all in all, I would recommend it as I believe it really did it’s job. Today I’m going to try the “Jillian Michaels: Shape Up: Front” DVD and I hope it is just as good if not better. It’s supposed to be a cardio workout plus triceps, quads, shoulders and chest. I’ll review it later today after I actually do it.

The worst part of this DVD is that she is kind of bitchy. It sounds stupid but when she has kind of catty banter with the other people working out with her you feel sidetracked from the workout and you kind of want her to just get on with it. She seems like The Biggest Loser went to her head and she’s pretty bitchy, but I don’t really care because I think she knows what she’s doing. I just wish she would only talk workout and leave the other people alone!

All in all, I’d recommend it. Give yourself lots of room on a hard-floor surface (preferably, because carpet makes it hard to keep your balance) and make sure there is lots of ventilation as it gets really warm in a small room. Keep a bottle of water handy because she takes a couple quick breaks to put her hair up and talk and it gives you a chance to get a drink. You’ll need it!

UPDATE: The “Shape Up: Front” DVD was amazing! It really worked me into a sweat. You need dumbells and a step but other than that, it really worked me! I didn’t have a step so I modified things as I went, and the smallest weights I have are 15lbs so I could only use the weights partially… but with all that, I still got worked. And I’m already completely sore. I recommend it.
