When You Go to the Movies

"The American"

A few days ago, Matt and I went to the movies and saw The American, the new spy movie starring George Clooney. We were in a small theater and there were not too many people. The person in front of us annoyed nearly everyone in the theater! He did a few really annoying things that I found out right disrespectful and led me to create a list of things I think people should NOT do in movie theaters!

First of all, if you’re going to be eating snack-bar items during the movie, make sure they are OPEN before the movie starts. I don’t want to hear bags ripping open when I should be hearing just a movie! Also, DO NOT EAT LOUDLY! This man had a bag of peanut M&M’s and he was biting each M&M in half and SUCKING the peanut out… loudly! It was gross, loud, and completely annoying. Plus the movie was a rather quiet one with out much dialogue so his peanut sucking sounds were magnified! Gross!

And just like you shouldn’t text or even have your cell phone out (the light from the screen is super annoying) you also shouldn’t TALK during the movie. Whispering to your partner/friend is one thing, but TALKING IN YOUR STREET VOICE is rude. No one wants to hear your commentary and lame, inappropriate jokes! This man must’ve made at least 20 comments throughout the whole movie. People were looking back at him and getting frustrated.

Stadium-seating theaters mean comfort. But for them to be comfortable for everyone YOU CAN’T PUT YOUR FEET UP IF SOMEONE IS A SEAT IN FRONT OF YOU. This man had his big gross foot up on the chair in front of him and someone was directly to the left of that chair. That person had to lean away the whole time! So rude. It bugs me when people are not aware of others and considerate of their feelings.

Have to go to the restroom during the movie? Hey, it happens. Try to sneak out and not obstruct the view of people for more than a few seconds. Don’t stand up and stretch first. That’s completely unnecessary.

Okay so my recent movie experience left me bitter… can you tell? :) These are just things I WOULDN’T DO at a movie theater.. so no one get offended, okay?

I just hope that guy doesn’t pop up to go see the new Ben Affleck movie The Town on it’s opening night because I’ve been dying to see that one! Does anyone else think that movie looks great?

Now that I’ve shared my list of things I do not think people should at a movie theater, please share some of your pet movie theater peeves! Or one of your worst movie theater experiences!

I can’t wait to read ‘em :)

Oh and P.S. If you have velcro shoes, don’t wear them to the movies and adjust them throughout the film. It’s rude. And obnoxious. And the rest of us are mad at you because of it! :D

HAHAH that is funny, I have serious movie pet peeves too! My biggest is brining your kid to a non-kid movie and then ignoring them when they get obnoxious in the middle of it. It’s not my fault you couldn’t find a sitter, take your kid to a kiddy movie and don’t ruin it for the rest of us.rnrnI also hate when people put their feet on my seat, however I like to do it, so I make sure to get there early so I can get the seats that are right behind the railing so I can put them up on the railing :) At least I am considerate of others when putting my feet up :)

One of my worst experiences ever was seeing “Rent.” I love the musical and know the CD pretty much by heart. Unfortunately, so did the woman sitting in the row behind me. While I, however, sang along in my head, she sang outloud. Even more unfortunate, no one would cast her in a church choir, let alone Rent. It was so rude and ruined the whole experince!

Oh my! I couldn’t even imagine! You made me laugh when you said she wouldn’t get cast in a church choir!

I’ve got two bad experiences to share, first off I can’t remember the movie but a few kids were sitting in the back row and halfway through the movie they decide to stand up and start doing shadow puppets on the screen… pissed everyone off of course. nnThe second story is just wronggggg urgh, when I was a senior in high school I went to see some slasher flick and sat with some friends in the back row. At one point during the flick my friend gestures to the end of the row, the back corner of the theater, and there is some woman giving her guy a blow job… are you kidding me? Some people need to realize just cause the lights are off, it doesn’t change the fact that the theater is a public location! Geez, & c’mon we were sitting like 10 seats over, so not right.
