Tonight’s dinner: Grilled shrimp skewers over citrus island rice with steamed veggies. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? It’s off of Applebee’s Under 550 calories menu. It’s amazing! I don’t like seafood but grilled shrimp (along with Salmon, Tuna, and Tilapia!) is the exception. And these grilled shrimp skewers are amazing! The citrus glaze was the perfect amount of orange-sweet and sour. The island citrus rice was amazing, too. It had bits of mandarin orange and pineapple in it… and when the shrimp glaze mixed with the rice it was so good! The vegetables were just steamed; no seasoning, no sauce. And how were they? Perfect! With all the flavor coming from the grilled shrimp and citrus island rice, I wouldn’t have had the veggies any other way! You know it was good because I ate it all. Seriously, I ate it all. Normally we don’t really eat at Applebee’s all that much but they’ve got a new Under 550 calories menu along AND they are only a block from our house. Nice little combination there, if I do say so myself :) Matt decided to get the steak. Also on that menu. I personally thought it was a good sized piece of meat for being on a low-calorie menu but I think he sort of agreed. His beef (no pun intended) was that the meal wasn’t really worth $12, as it was so small. I sort of agreed (but then, is any restaurant meal worth the price when you can make it at home for half the price??) but also expected this much from a low-cal menu at a big chain. Mine looked like a lot more food… when you get low-calorie grilled fish/shrimp, you get more. A little secret for you, there :-)… So now you know what I had for dinner… what did YOU have for dinner? Pictures are welcome.
