Today is the day! Matt and I are leaving in about 45 minutes for my surgery. The doctor’s office/hotel we are staying at tonight is about 2 full hours away, so I still need to get through the drive. I have to arrive to check in, start vital signs, IV, etc at 1pm and the surgery begins at 2pm. I just want it to be 2pm already! It hasn’t *totally* hit me yet that I’m really, seriously doing this, but I think it will get real once I’m in their little robe getting marked on by the Dr. So, yeah, it’s here. Crazy.
For my birthday my sister got me the angel vine topiary pictured above and I love it. It’s so cute. I had it in my kitchen the last two weeks but decided to move it upstairs to my bedroom so I have something pretty to look at while I’m laid up in bed for 4 days. She also brought me over a bag of DVD’s to watch
while I’m awake… I’m pretty stoked to finally watch the second season of Big Love since I finished the first one ages ago. The others I’m less enthused about but she and her husband promise me they’re all great. I also bought myself two magazines at the store yesterday because I really like reading and thought magazines would be better than starting a new book. It just so happens Sarah Jessica Parker is on the cover of one, and Kristen Davis is on the other one! It’s a sign that I’m meant to see SATC 2 on opening night
So here’s what I am taking with me. These are the pills I got prescribed for the surgery. One is suppositories (yuck, yuck) for extreme vomiting and nausea, one is an anti-biotic to help keep me healthy post-surgery, one is a stool softener to keep me from straining (TMI, I know, but true), the small box is just one pill I take pre-surgery before my IV, and the last one is a pain pill–I opted to get the newest one on the market because it doesn’t make you sick to your stomach, like hydrocodone/vicodin does. My plan is to take the bare minimum of these, because I hate taking pills unless it’s for allergies or a headache. So we’ll see. I especially hope I don’t have to use the “rectal rockets” (my sister and her pharmacy peeps refer to them as that because they look like little rockets) because 1. that means I’m super sick and 2. it goes in a bad place to put anything!
For those of you wondering about cost of the surgery, I may post those details at a later date. For right now, above is the cost of my meds. Cheaper than I expected but a little more pricey than the normal because 1. I didn’t get the generic pain pill–I got a new one that does not have a generic yet, and 2. the pill you take before surgery doesn’t come in an off-brand either. Anyway, I’m leaving now. Wish me luck! There will be more pictures and updates to come as soon as I’m able to sit at my computer desk
Thanks to everyone for all the warm wishes!
