Story Time!

Matt Sleeping in a Denny's Booth

I realized today that I talk so much about day to day tasks that I don’t take enough time to talk about important things or tell stories. I hope you weren’t hoping for the former in this post because this, friends, is totally the latter. I want to tell you guys a story that took place shortly after Matt and I had become a couple.

If you want to read how we met, you can do that here.

So one night when Matt and I were dating, he was trying to convince me to come out with him and his friends. I said no because I had a paper due in my English course at JC the following morning. Not just a paper, either. It was the paper. The final paper of the course. But Matt–for those of you who know him–can be very persistent and convincing so eventually I agreed.

It ended up being in my apartment complex so we just walked over to his friend’s house, had some drinks, and relaxed. I stayed sober because I still had to work on my paper (I had horrible studying habits at JC, what can I say!?) but Matt drank and, as it happens, got pretty drunk. After a few hours of hanging out he convinced me to go to Denny’s with him where I’m pretty sure he promised he’d drink water and sober up. Well, well, well. About 2 seconds after we ordered our food, he passed out in the booth (see picture above). I ate by myself while he slept, punched him in the arm repeatedly to wake him up when I was done, somehow got him upstairs to my apartment and in my bed, and he slept the entire night (what was left of it) in my bed while I stayed awake at the kitchen table furiously writing my paper.

After ALL of his convincing and promises of an epic night of hanging out, he PASSED OUT and I ended up having to stay up literally all night to finish my paper and make sure he was still breathing.

Epic FAIL. But obviously that didn’t deter me from dating him, since we’re married now. :)

We still look back at that night sometimes and laugh about it, although I’m sure at the time is was quite less funny! :)

Do you have any stories about you and your significant other than you look back on a remember as being funny when they really sucked at the time??
