Sore end to a sore week

1st time snowboarding.. leaving the house at 6:30am!

Yesterday morning Matt and I went snowboarding with our friends Mandy & Lucas. This is the only picture I took because I didn’t want to bring a camera or phone because I was afraid I would have broken it. And–judging by how my first time went–I probably made the right choice ;)

We got up to Dodge around 8:45-9am and then we got our lift tickets, grabbed some pre-boarding fuel (breakfast burritos, coffee, and beer–of course!), rented my board and split up. Matt & Lucas hit up the big hills for about 2 hours of hardcore boarding while Mandy and I went to a 2-hour lesson. It kicked out butts! Mandy did really great and, for my first time, I think I did pretty good too.  Unfortunately I took my gloves off to unstrap by boots from my bindings and I cut my finger on the edge of my board pretty bad. It I’d take a picture and show you guys but it’s nasty! If that were the worst of it, I would have been fine. Buuutt, one of the first times I went down a small hill during class with both of my feet strapped in, I turned too soon and my feet & board flew out from under me and my head smacked straight against the ground. It was pretty icy and I got knocked pretty good. When I sat up, it was black completely in one eye and I couldn’t really see. I had already told Mandy that I felt like I might have been getting a migraine, but once I fell, the vision in my right eye went black completely. I shook my head, took off my gloves and grabbed my face and slowly the vision came partially back. I used the last of my energy finishing out the rest of the class (30 minutes left at this point) and by the time we made the trek back to the cafe (where we were meeting the boys), I had never felt so bad. I tried to suck it up as we walked back but every step was agonizing beyond anything I’d ever experienced. It felt like my brain was twice it’s normal size and it was rattling in my head. My vision was blurred and it hurt to look in the sun. Once we went to the restroom and headed upstairs to the cafe, I knew I was going to be sick. So after going from bench to bathroom a few times, I realized I probably hit my head harder than I thought. After an hour of drinking water and nibbling on a sandwich (and I took an 800mg ibuprofen that I had–at the last minute–brought in case my knee started acting up) I began to gain back my vision and my head got slightly better. It was pretty scary, actually, and now I know–always wear a helmet!

Other than that, I’d love to go again.. it seems like tons of fun! I just need lots of practice!!

Today we are meeting up with some friends for coffee but until then I plan on doing a slow 30 minutes on the elliptical to relax my muscles. They are so tight and sore everywhere that a little exercise may be the cure.

As for the last few days of the week that I didn’t write.. well, they were busy as always. Low-impact Zumba and Shakin’ It wrapped up my week of working out. I took Friday off from working out (did 10 minutes on the stair stepper just because my calves were so tight) but enjoyed my exercise classes at BodyKraze Monday-Thursday. I already feel my mid section toning up a little!

Last week was a hard work week. Stressful & tiring, more so than normal. The stress caused a few days of nutty breakdowns, which caused a lot of dorkiness, like so:

Captain Morgan pose at work!

I don’t even like Captain Morgan but I think the pose is pretty funny. Then my coworker and I were getting laughs from putting celebrity hair on ourselves, which you could do at People.com last week. My favorite “Bad hair” style? This:

Yikes!

Sorry for the quality–it’s a picture of my screen taken with my cell phone, haha :) I forget what celeb’s hair that was (I changed the color) but it looked awful on me. One more reason the pixie cut is bad–it looks bad on everyone!! :)

Then on Friday our bathrooms at work were busted, causing us to drive to Starbucks to use the bathroom. When you drinking around 6-8 cups of water a day like me, that is a major pain in the ass! One perk of having to go to Starbucks a lot? Getting to check out their merchandise, which I don’t normally do when I go there for a drink. I found these mugs and I love them!

Starbucks Tall, Grande, and Venti mugs! Love 'em! :)

They also had a lot of very cute Valentine’s Day mugs that I liked.. hint, hint hubby :)

I got up at 6am because I was so sore I couldn’t sleep and I’ve managed to lay around so long that now I gotta get up and do laundry and get some stretching & ellipticisin’ in ;)

Hope everyone has a chillax Sunday!!

Awesome cups! The short hair looks like that chick who plays Hermione on Harry Potter. I’m probably wrong though. nnI don’t know what happened to us going to get coffee…. oh wait yes I do, the guys spent that time playing TF2 instead lol. nnNext time you all go snowboarding, maybe Joel and I will join you. Though your whole head cracking incident has me a little intimidated. You’re a trooper!

Can you go to the doctor and check your head? I bet it’s nothing, and I really don’t want to scare you, but get it checked just to make sure…nnA friend of mine lost her boyfriend after a snowboarding fall when he hit his head (it took two weeks for him to start feeling any symptoms with horrible neck pain and he was in pretty bad shape for another two weeks after that, unfortunately, since he was young, the ER sent him home each time after neck x-rays came out clear, and he passed away shortly after being released because there was ‘nothing wrong with him’ and the cause turned out to being internal bleeding on his head).nnDon’t want to scare you, but it’s good to check to be on he safe side. Seriously.
