Ahh, finished!
Starting Thursday, I began creating a tri-fold poster for my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday. I did one for my father-in-law for his 60th birthday two years ago and it was a hit so I thought I’d do it again. I forgot how much work goes into something so silly. I put a few hours of work into this Thursday night, then Friday night since Matt was at poker I pretty much worked on it from 6pm until 11pm, and then today I worked on it for about 4 more hours. I know, you’re going to look at it and go “really? all those hours? really?” but yes, really! For instance, the cover took me nearly half an hour alone! Each letter was hand stamped onto a paper with a pattern of bubbles, then each bubble was cut out and then I took white string, cut it, pulled it apart into four separate stands (to make it small enough) and glued them to the backs of the bubbles. Then they were hand glued with a glue stick (can’t find my damn glue gun!) to the front (after I cut, measured, glued & taped the wrapping paper to it). AH, that was a run on sentence and a mouthful! My eyes and hands are tired from all the precision cutting and detail. And I’m pretty blind as it so, so this thing was really a test!
So below is a picture of the inside. It’s probably hard to understand why these TERRIBLE (that’s the point–to look really fake & goofy) photoshops are funny and you pretty much need to see the other one to get the full effect. But I’ll post anyway. The theme is “things you can do even though you’re 60 years old, lady!”…..ok, well something like that.
The things she can do? Be a philsopher, become a dog-napping rapper thug, a pirate on the high seas, a monster truck driver, a wise old Indian chief, a model for fine art, a fairy princess, a Playboy bunny, a party animal, or George Clooney’s new girlfriend (although she’s married!).
(exhale.)
I’ve been busy all weekend so far. And tomorrow is the family part at 1pm. Matt and I are dreading it because, for the most part, we’re not “all of the family” get together people. Do we love our families? Yes. But do we relish spending the entire day with a bunch of people whom we hardly ever see when we’d rather just be together? Obvious answer goes here. But we had a great day today so it won’t hurt us to do a family thing tomorrow. I may even bring my camera and take pics.
Separate note. Today we went and saw Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio. Some dicklick on Digg ruined it for me by posting a complete spoiler inside what I thought was a legit cinematography comment. But, what I didn’t already know I picked up on quite quickly and Matt had also figured out the entire plot from beginning to end just from watching the trailer a few times. Still, it was great. Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor! I recommend it! We ate all three of our meals out today! Kind of nice not having to cook. We had Starbucks for breakfast (caffe Americano & low-fat coffee cake), Applebees for lunch (Matt got a chicken dish and I got the same shrimp meal) and Chipotle for dinner (I got a 420 calorie extra-vegetarian burrito and Matt got a chicken burrito). But all this crafting, internetting, and eating out has made me not want to do the laundry, dishes, or clean the bathroom! I’m getting used to leisurely activities! Tomorrow will be a slap in the face when I have to take care of all those things!
Boo.
I hope to get back to reality tomorrow. I’ve not looked at my cell phone or Facebook since Friday afternoon. I looked at Twitter briefly today but that’s all. I plan on watching SNL in bed with Matt in an hour and a half and enjoying it to the extreme! Then tomorrow I will have to do the unpleasant things. But I still have a few more hours!
Hope everyone else is having a tremendously exciting weekend. Best!!
P.S. Been using the camera on my Google Nexus One. What does everyone think of the quality?
