A few days ago, I received an email from Kelsey asking me what make up I wear:
First let me just say thank you for the incredibly generous compliment. I think fellow bloggers probably know my secret: try and post the most flattering pictures possible. Unless you really want to be brutally honest, like I (unfortunately) was here and here (bed head picture).
So here are the products I use on a daily basis.
For eyeshadow and blush, I use Hard Candy. I like this brand because of the following reasons: 1. you get more makeup than typical eyeshadow packages give you 2. they are shimmery, which I love 3. you can layer/foil them to make them very dark or really light 4. they are available at normal retailers—like Target & Walmart, depending on your location (which means I don’t have to go to the mall to get more) and 5. they are affordable.
While Hard Candy does come in “plain” colors like pink, beige, brown, etc, sometimes I don’t want the shimmer effect and for those days I opt for my basic, no frills shadow by Sephora:
The “Colorful” line by Sephora is great. They do all the layering that Hard Candy does, but they are more expensive in addition I have to either order online or drive to the mall for them.
They have fun, frilly colors that shimmer and glitter, too, but I only have one of those and I find it to be more messy than Hard Candy. I use it for special occasions when I want to do dark, smoky eyes:
As far as concealer and foundation go… well, I don’t wear those. I do have a back-up bottle of Clinique foundation I keep in my make up bag for emergencies but I am strictly powder & blush. And for my powder I use Clinique pressed powder for my first (morning) application, and then I use Cover Girl for mid-day touch ups. I do this because I have found the products to be very similar in quality yet CG is less expensive so using it for touch-up’s keeps my Clinique tab low ![]()
When I wear lip color (not colored gloss but actual lip stick), I only wear Benefit, because I find it to be long-lasting without feeling cakey or thick. I buy this once a year because I don’t hardly ever it.
I vary when it comes to mascara. I try new ones all the time and I’ve never really found one I hated, either. I do, however, like the one I am using right now. It came with a plain black eyeliner pencil (same brand) and that’s what I’m currently using for eye liner. Here’s the mascara (you can tell it’s been gently used!):
Rimmel London. I got it at Target on sale for $7 and it works great. I used to wear Benefit mascara but after wearing it a year, I was ready to try something else and I’m happy with the above.
So there you have it!
Nothing too exciting, huh? As for the process, I wear a light moisturizer first, then pressed powder then blush (my blush, if you didn’t notice in the picture above, is also a light bronzer), then eyeshadow then eyeliner then mascara and lips.
What make up do you wear?
