I Went Shopping Today… at Ross & TJ Maxx

my s wall art from ross

Today I went in to work early. 6:30 am arrival early. Yeah. So I got off at 3:30 pm and didn’t feel right just going home :) So I decided I would go to Ross and TJ Maxx. I’ve never been to either of those places but recently my friend Jillian (who just bought a cute little house all on her own! woot! So proud!) and her boyfriend Clint had my husband and I over for dinner and she had some great fleur de lis wall art at her place. I asked her several times about several different pieces and she said she either got them at Ross or TJ Maxx. I was sold. She, more specifically, had a three piece set of gold embellished fleur de lis’ that she got at Ross/TJ Maxx (awful memory, can’t remember which place she got them from) so today I set out to look for that same set. I’m a copy cat, I know. But if I found them, I would paint them black because they seem like they’d look really cool a fake antique black and I already have a lot of gold goin’ on here at Casa de Shelbstar. So here’s what the set kind of looks like:

Fleur De Lis Wall artI think the ones in this picture may be a little more ornate than the ones Jilly has, but they are still pretty cool. Unfortunately I searched through the aisles of stuff at Ross and came up empty handed :( They had a lot of stuff but nothing fleur, which is the style I am very much into. And really nothing Italian renaissance-y in the art department, so that was it for me. I did, however, find a few side tables and wicker/straw storage baskets that were amazing. But I told myself I wasn’t there for any furniture pieces or storage baskets. I stayed strong! I did however, end up with the metal “S” wall art pictured at the top of this post. When I saw the letters, I dug through them looking for an “S” but couldn’t find one. Then as I was walking away I saw one hidden on a different shelf and I nabbed it! I absolutely love it. My husband’s bosses wife has a decorating style pretty close to mine and they have an “R” just like this “S”. When I saw hers I asked her where she got it and she said Ross. I forgot all about that until today! But it is small and Matt is a fan of really big/oversize wall art/art. So I think what were going to do is hang it on the wall on the first landing up the stairs.

S on wallI’m a one man show :) That’s me holding it up where I think I want to have Matt hang it. He says he would like it there, too so we will see. We will probably play around with it a little before we hang it. Because it was dark and funky lighting when I took this, here’s another picture of this “S” to put it into perspective on the color. Here it looks more brown/woody than it really is. And our walls are “Gobi Desert”.. NOT KHAKI, so I’d like to prove that with a few other pictures, too :)

S on granite roller“S” on our granite wine roller.. Those candlesticks (topic for a whole different post..ugh!) are really gold, so when you put the “S” next to something more gold and less brown.. it seems more gold. It’s really cool.. I love it, at least! Haha. What makes it even more loveable (and for those of you that know me well, I’m sure you got an idea what’s coming…).. it was only $11!! After tax it was under $12. And it adds so much to a blank wall. Totally worth it. Shelbstar FTW! Oh, and here is the blank wall where it’s going to go…

Stairs and wall

It’s a good little nook for it, I think. I keep forgetting, too, that I have a gift certificate to I LOVE PARIS in Oakdale. Jilly and I have gone there together a few times but for those of you who haven’t heard of it.. it’s this amazing (over priced though) boutique with a lot of Paris/Italy themed things for your home and kitchen. They also have clothes, soaps, jewelery, bags, and much more. They have these beautiful hand painted Italian dishes and old La Rochere highball Bee glasses that I would LOVE to have.. but Matt doesn’t LOVE them so I would hate to spend that much money on something we don’t both really like.

Anyway, my experience at Ross and TJ Maxx wasn’t bad. I would have to say I probably won’t go to TJ Maxx again, just because they hardly had anything and what they did have was pretty off when it comes to my style. A lot of World Market looking blown glass, monkey statues and Chinese urn type of things. Not ugly, just not my style.

We are slowly buying things to put our house together. We’ve lived here a year now and we still aren’t completely done with all of the remodeling but at least we’re at a point now where decorating is something we can do… not just dream of. I’ll end this post with an open invitation: In a couple weeks I’m going bra shopping, looking for a dress to wear at a Luau-themed wedding at the lake, and to go to I Love Paris. Which one of my wonderful friends/seeesters (only got one! hint, hint!) wants to come?? :)
