I have my degree in English, but the road to getting that degree was not always smooth and easy. In fact, there were many times where I struggled to produce a paper that I thought was good enough to turn in, and many times where I was shot down, being told my writing wasn’t good enough. But I continued to learn from every bad paper and eventually became (hopefully) a good writer, and graduated with my degree. I now work papers over for other students, giving them technical feedback as well as cohesion, unity, and thesis-related feedback. It took me nearly five years to be at a place where I can lend a hand to other writers to be of help. It’s important to struggle with something in order to fully understand and conquer it. While I have yet to conquer all types of writing, I think I am on my way to doing so but I can only say I am through hard work and learning. So…
What do you think of someone who you can pay to write your papers for you? Not everyone is a good writer, or wants to write papers, but is it an invaluable skill to be a good writer and to learn to do this? Or, is it part of earning your degree and if you pay someone to do your work, you aren’t truly earning your degree?
The other day as I was cruising the internet, I somehow stumbled across the website called “Never Do Homework Again (dot com)” and became very intrigued. A two-time college graduate offers to write papers, or offers a plethora of pre-written papers, for a fee. The cost is a bit expensive, and the idea of turning in a pre-written paper not knowing if it’s already made it through the “Turn it in (dot com)” filters, makes me a bit weary. But most of all, I can’t help but ask if this is an ethical thing to do?
She requests payment before and after the work is written and promises work that is not plagiarized. Can she promise that pre-written papers have yet to be turned in? No. As a professor, you can probably notice the difference between a student’s first mediocre paper and that same student turning in a good paper, written in a complete different writing style, just weeks later. Right? I feel strongly that having someone else do you work for you, for a rate, is cheating.
What do you think, is she doing unethical business and promoting cheating students?
I sent her an e-mail, asking her a few basic questions (you’ll be able to tell how I feel about what she’s doing once you read the e-mail but it’s my blog, I’m entitled to an opinion) and am awaiting her response. I will post the e-mail and response when and if I receive it. Maybe your opinion will change after she gives her side? For me, nothing will make me feel that this isn’t cheating.
UPDATE: Allison Murphy, the woman behind this website, responded to my e-mail. Short and sweet is something I usually like but in this case I can’t help but sense a little bitterness? Hmm :) Click here to read the e-mail.
