Hello everyone! Today is HALLOWEEN! My favorite (or, one of) holiday of the year! Tonight we are going to make halloween pasta and watch a scary movie while we give out toys and candy to the trick o’ treaters! It’s going to be amazing!
Last week was a busy week because I was preparing for Halloween (food, costume, alcohol, etc) and had just started tutoring a friend’s daughter two days a week. So I spent a lot of time looking up reading and spelling techniques so I didn’t tutor her with bad habits and unruly tricks
Okay, now that I told you I spent all week being busy, wanna see what I did?
Thursday I made creepy eye balls… but because making cake balls was just going to take too long, I used donut holes with white chocolate and candy sticks.
I made almost two full boxes of donut holes of these babies! It was insane! I tried one after I made them and they were okay–I don’t like white chocolate, something about the consistency. But I took them to our party Friday night and people loved them. Things on a stick attract people–little smokies, corndogs, popsicles… and now eyeballs
I also spent a good portion of my night on Thursday making jello shots, which I’ve never done before.
I read on the intewebs about what makes a good jello shot but because I couldn’t find one reputable recipe, I tried them two different ways. First I used a decent vodka–which I read was pretty key. I chose cherry Skyy vodka and it smelled so good! I used one box of sugar free black cherry jello, one box of sugar free orange jello and one box of sugar free peach jello. For the cherry and orange I did one cup boiling water and 3/4 cup vodka and for the peach I did 2 cups boiling water and 1 cup vodka. Overall the cherry and orange ones were pretty solid and the peach ones were more liquidy so if I ever made these again I’d meet somewhere in the middle with the recipes.
I also made cupcakes because I had blood spatter & spooky designed Martha Stewart cupcake liners… so adorable. I iced them with white frosting and then made dumb little designs on them (didn’t take a picture of the final product, boo..) but they looked pretty neato since I made the batter orange:
I usually make cupcakes when I go to parties, because everyone eats them. I normally make them somewhat healthy (substitute the vegetable oil for applesauce and use the low-sugar frosting) but let’s face it, a good cupcake isn’t healthy
And all week I was putting the finishing touches on my pirate costume, which came out of a bag but needed other accessories
Those are Michael Antonio boots, by the way, and I wear them a ton in the winter. I like his brand because they are pretty inexpensive but they are good quality and although they aren’t super comfortable, they are really cute and pretty different from the types of boots & pumps sold in the department stores mainstream.
And here’s the pirate couple:
And now us being scary pirates..
And romantic pirates..
And a pirate caught in the headlights..
Overall we had a fun night.
We started the night off with 3-5 jello shots. We weren’t sure how strong they were so we took our chances. Then we started drinking the jungle juice. Oh jungle juice how you punished me so.
Here’s what it had in it:
-Everclear
-Vodka
-Peach Schnapps
-Bacardi 151
-99 Apples
-Triple Sec
-Gin
-Apple Pucker
-Boones Farm Wine
-Sprite
-Hawaiian Punch
-Sunny D
They soaked pineapple and orange slices in the alcohol before adding the (small bit of) non-alcoholic stuff that was in it. We each had to eat a piece of fruit and it was absolutely nasty! It tasted like rubbing alcohol!
I had two-three cups of jungle juice and around 4 jello shots and by the time we got home I knew it was going to be a long night. Fast forward through the bad stuff, I was almost back to normal and feeling better by 5pm yesterday, but after a good night’s sleep, I finally feel normal again. That was my first AND last time drinking jungle juice!
I am excited for a low-key alcohol free Halloween tonight where I can see the kiddies all dressed up and pass out treats
Hope everyone has a fun & safe Halloween.. don’t drink the jungle juice!
