Guilty pleasures are those things that you absolutely love but feel foolish for loving. They can be anything from terrible songs to crappy movies… whatever it is, we all have our own little guilty pleasures. Here are some of mine:
The old 90210 series… I know it is unbelievably cheesy, the acting is horrible, the plots are predictable and cliche, but I always enjoy watching it… it’s relaxing for some reason!
Britney Spears. I know she’s a complete mess slightly recovered and her music isn’t that great, but I always find myself clicking thumbnails of her on celebrity gossip sites to see what she looks like and how she is doing.
Cheesy, senitmental movies that you know end happily.. It’s like, I hate romantic comedies and won’t go to the theatre to see them but secretly, I like to watch them because they require little thinking and end happily.. Examples? Nearly all Kate Hudson movies.
MTV’s The Gauntlet. I hate, hate, hate MTV because they have more commercials than programming but I get caught up in shows like The Gauntlet because they are full of action. I hate myself for liking it :)
Chocolate milk. It’s high calorie, full of sugar, and something I last drank when I was a child. I feel too adult to drink it but when I do get to, I love it. There’s nothing like a big, cold glass of chocolate milk to make you feel at home.
Craigslist Missed Connections. It’s this ridiculous place where people post where they saw someone they liked and felt a connection but didn’t do anything. It’s pathetic stuff like “I saw you driving in Modesto yesterday” and it can never be narrowed down… but somehow I like reading it because these people are oddly, sadly, romantic.
30s-50s fashions. I don’t ever actually wear them but I wish I was funky enough to pull it off because I find them classically beautiful. I think they represent a time when women lacked a lot of rights they have now, but had more respect than they do now. Bittersweet and secretly great.
Fitness infomercials. The majority of them are completely fake and feature tired techniques that have been played and replayed for years, but somehow watching the P90X infomercial is always inspiring, even if the majority of it is a small truth that has been really stretched.
There are plenty more guilty pleasures but maybe I shouldn’t air all of them, I mean, they are guilty because they’re somewhat secret, right? Something about having a set of things you hate to love makes them something you want to keep secret, doesn’t it?
What are your guilty pleasures?
