Most of us like coffee. And if you’re like me, you love coffee. No, seriously, you would marry coffee if you could. You would have one of those beer can hats and switch out the beer for coffee. It tastes good and smells even better. Mmm, coffee. Unfortunately, I often times find it impossible to tear myself away from that late night episode of Teen Mom or Jersey Shore (I’m like 17, I totally watch MTV!) so in the morning, when I’m tired and have overslept and haven’t made coffee, I end up jamming to the Starbucks by my work to get my lover, coffee. If you do the same, you know that sometimes it’s tempting to get something frilly, like some sort of Frappuccino with whipped cream, or an iced-mocha something with cream and sugary syrup. Sometimes I consider it, but I never do this. Why? Because I know you can have a delicious coffee from Starbucks AND have it be low-calorie. Yes, seriously!
My drink of choice is a Venti Caffe Americano with non-fat milk & Splenda. And guess what? At some Starbucks, they now have Stevia for those of you who diss on Splenda. The drink is made of espresso & hot water, and when my NF milk (sometimes soymilk) and Splenda is added, it’s the perfect amount of caffeine and sweetness! And it’s just a measly 30 calories! And it’s the ginormous size I need to wake up and survive the work day! WOO HOO
But I know not everyone loves espresso like I do, so here is a list (straight from the Starbucks website) of their “Delicious Drinks Under 200 Calories“: (all sizes are Tall)
- Caramel Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee
- Coffee Frappuccino Blended Coffee
- Shaken Tazo Iced Passion Tea (unsweetened)
- Shaken Tazo Iced Black Tea Lemonade
- Nonfat Iced Vanilla Latte
- Nonfat Iced Caramel Machiato
- Iced Coffee (with classic syrup)
- Iced Skinny Latte
- Hot Drinks (Tall)
- Brewed Coffee
- Brewed Tazo Tea
- Nonfat Tazo Green Tea Latte
- Nonfat Cappuccino
- Nonfat Caffè Latte
- Nonfat Caramel Machiato
- Soy Tazo Chai Tea Latte
- Nonfat Caffè Mocha – hold the whip
- Skinny Vanilla Latte
- Steamed Apple Juice
- Nonfat Vanilla Crème – hold the whip
- Caffè Americano
Those are a lot of yummy choices!
But still, if you don’t see anything on that list that tickles your fancy (total old lady saying), then try changing it up & lowering the calories with the following methods:
- Ask for your drink to be made with Non Fat Milk or Soymilk instead of Cream or Vitamin D Milk
- If you drink calls for sweetener in the form of syrup, ask for half the pumps OR ask for Splenda, Sweet’n'Low, or Equal in place of the high-calorie syrup
- Skip the whipped cream–by itself, that delicious white topper adds 130 calories on a cold Grande or Venti sized drink. That’s another entire Skinny Vanilla Latte you could have instead!
- If you just can’t live without your creamy dreamy drink, opt for the Tall instead of the Grande or Venti. You can get that flavor but less calories than the big size.
Think you won’t be able to fight the urge of ordering your all-time favorite drink if you go there? Try keeping a good, light alternative in your pantry or fridge for those mornings when you simply don’t have time to make it but don’t feel strong enough to go to Starbucks! They have an amazing Double Shot Light that has just 70 calories per can and hey, it’s only 2 WW points
Or just go there, stay strong and try something new!
It may seem like you’re getting a less tasty drink, but I promise, you’re not. There are tons of great drinks to be drank (ha!) at Starbucks for 200 calories or less! And just think, if you learn to love a low-calorie drink, you’ll feel so much better not having to run that extra 40 minutes at the gym to burn off your coffee!
What is YOUR favorite drink at Starbucks?
