Lately I’ve been really hot after I shower & do my hair in the morning. It just gets so hot upstairs! The last thing I want to do is eat my hot cream of wheat and drink my hot coffee! So this morning I decided I’d make a smoothie for breakfast. I had plenty of time (my hubby had to get up early today, too, so we were both up well before our normal time) so I figured this was the right day to try!
Here’s how I made ‘er:
Here’s what I named ‘er and here’s what she’s got in ‘er:
Chocolate Banana Berry Shake:
-1/2 scoop Chocolate Whey Protein (70 calories)
-1 frozen banana (90 calories)
-4 frozen strawberries (40 calories)
-3 ice cubes
-1 handful Organic baby spinach
-1/4 cup light vanilla soymilk (about 20)
-1 cup light vanilla yogurt (100)
Total calories for shake: Around 320
My normal breakfast & mid-morning snack: 1 packet of cream of wheat (130 calories) and two slices wheat toast with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (300 calories)= About 430 calories
SO if the added protein & goodness in this morning shake curbs my hunger until lunch time, I’ll be saving nearly 100 calories per day AND I am getting lots of added vitamins and protein that I wasn’t getting before. Cool deal, no?
The verdict on the shake: SO yummy! I could’ve used about ½ of the yogurt (I just did a few big spoonfuls, which I am guessing amounted to a cup or so) and it would have been just as yummy. OR, to lighten it up even more, I’m pretty sure I could have eliminated the yogurt and added a few more ice cubes. The consistency would’ve been slightly chunkier (because of the ice) and less creamy, but it still would’ve tasted great, I think! I’ll try that tomorrow (as long as I have the time). The spinach gives it a little green kick, although (as you can tell it will) it’s still pretty brown from the chocolate whey. It tastes like a chocolate covered strawberry, healthified! AANNDD, it made a HUGE glass full! I can’t wait to see if it makes a difference in my feeling/energy level throughout the day & if it affects my work out tonight.
Once I get off of work (I don’t have time now as it’s already 6:30am) I will post the pictures I took (with my baby camera) of the smoothie making process. Posted!
I’m a novice! I usually go to Jamba Juice but this is much better!
Man, I’m glad Julie at PBF inspired me.
& if you’d like to see the shake that inspired mine, you can check it out right here. The main differences between Julie’s shake & my shake are: her has a full scoop of protein powder whereas mine combines a 1/2 scoop of protein powder with a cup of yogurt, I only used 1/4 light vanilla soy and she uses 3/4 cup of almond breeze, I added a banana and spinach (like her shake here) and she added cocoa powder. I basically just combined two of her shakes into one! It was a good choice
I’ll try a new one tomorrow!
Happy Hump Day, peeps
Update #1: It took me two hours to finish drinking this shake! It was SO big! Filling, too! Tomorrow I’ll try it slightly different (less calories) and see if it takes me as long & if it’s as filling!
