How We Met

Matt and I have a unique story, I think. Well, maybe not so unique as interesting.

We met at the dorms at the university we both went to. Matt lived there and I was there visiting my friend. He was walking across the corridor to the gym (to work out!) and we were leaving my friend’s dorm (I can’t remember where or why). My friend said hello to him, and said “this is my friend Shelby,” and then we said hi to one another. If someone would have told me at that precise moment in time that he would end up being my best friend and husband, I would have said WHHHAAAAAAAAAT! I remember telling my friend that I thought he was hot and that I wanted to really meet him… but I also remember being a lot more immature than I am now and not really knowing how to be a in real relationship. Yet, three days after the first night we hung out we decided to be a couple. And three months after that we got engaged and moved in together. Crazy, huh?

Short story, I know. Just thought I’d share it with you.

Oh, and our first “real” date was going to see the 50 Cent movie Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and then getting dinner. Romantic film, I know :)

Happy Easter to My Peeps :-)

Happy Easter to all my peeps :-)

Today Matt and I are relaxing.. it’s our first weekend in a few months where we’ve had nothing going on for our Sunday… and it’s nice! We slept it, got coffee & scones, laid in bed & watched TV, and now we’re going to get some lunch and continue our relaxing day! It’s nice, and I hope that everyone else out there is relaxing, too.

I apologize to my friends who read that I let you guys down on themed weeks. But, naturally, my life became pretty busy and I had to choose.. so I chose working on my house & getting new blinds :P Who can blame me? But I plan to come back with a blogging vengeance soon. Until then, everyone enjoy Easter & relax!!! Life is too short to always be stressed out! :D

Editor’s note:I threw together the little “Happy Easter” picture above in Photoshop, using a new font I picked up this weekend. I also used a pattern I found at my favorite Photoshop Brush & Pattern site, as well as a birdie (reminds me of the Twitter birdie!) brush stamp I found a few months ago and have yet to use!

“Don’t do that, don’t mock the clothes”

On an episode of Sex and the City, Aidan moves in with Carrie and they temporarily share one small apartment while waiting for the one next door to open up. Aidan asks Carrie to clean out her closet to make room for his stuff and she reluctantly agrees. A fight breaks out and it goes from something small to a main issue as fights usually do. And, in keeping with the nature of a real relationship, Carrie leaves (storms out, actually) to cool down. When she comes home to apologize, Aidan is still clearly angry. When she sees how he is behaving, she forgets her apology and is renewed with a whole new anger. Taking a day (or two!) to think about the arugment and their behaviors, they both realize how stupid the fighting was and jointly apologize.

I love this episode (the start of the fight is the quote that titles this post) because the situation is so universal to relationships. I find that in my own relationship it often takes a day or so to realize how stupid an argument is and how important the other things are.

So this leads me to my question: is fighting actually a beneficial tool in relationships? If we didn’t fight we might bottle it up and explode… and explosions are typically (but not always) impossible to make right. Whereas arguments (while not enjoyable) can sometimes lead us to see the other person’s opinion and help us find a happy medium in the situation. And everyone knows the best part of a fight is the first day or two after you make up… you are both so nice :) So would you rather have a relationship where you never fight… but when you do its a huge explosion that could possible perfect or ruin your relationship… OR… have one where you have maybe one or two fights every couple of months.. and they are agonizing but better things?

I know which I am… the second of the two. But that doesn’t mean that’s the right choice. Although I have to admit I think the second one is ultimately healthier.

Carrie and Aidan are the second choice as well and they end up breaking up. The man she marries ends up being someone who she has the first type of relationship with so… who knows, maybe they both work?

Wedding Vow Renewal…

A couple of months ago, my husband and I became friends with another couple. Matt met the man over a year ago because they work for the same company, but I only met his wife recently during our company softball games. We became quick friends, sharing many likes and dislikes. After a few months, they told us they were having their 10 year wedding anniversary and to celebrate they would be renewing their vows. Knowing that we have a good camera, they asked us if we would casually take photos of their event. Because I aspire to be a photographer some day, we accepted and I said I would give it a try. I took nearly 500 photos, edited those down to around 250. Of those, here are some of my favorite shots of the event below.
