1. Maternity Shoot TOMORROW!

I think Hello Kitty is absolutely adorable and decided to try a few Hello Kitty themed invites. Granted I do think a Hello Kitty themed party would be better for a slightly older child, say 5 or 6 years old, I do think it could work for a little girl.. if it was HK & cupcake themed..

So here’s what I came up with so far..

It’s hard to tell on a white screen but these all have white borders, so when you put them on colored card stock they have a cute framed trim. Also, this is an invitation that opens bottom-to-top (see below) but I forced them together in one weird screen so you could see the front and inside :) Here is the front and here is the inside, if you wanted to see them separately.

Here’s what it would look like if it was really an invitation.. although it is important to note that 1. I would change the size from 5×7 to 6×4 and I WOULD BUY CARDSTOCK AND PRINT IT PROPERLY! I just used construction paper here to show what I meant.. so, yes, it looks quite tacky as is! Here is a cupcake stick, too.. Keep in mind these aren’t printed on cardstock or cut with a paper-cutter.. & also, they would be cut in circles then pasted on pre-cut flowers, instead of printed all in one.. but I haven’t been to the craft store yet!

And when I was Googling Hello Kitty (to find the head I used for the front of the card) I found a bunch of cute things.. and then.. this..

A Hello Kitty wedding dress!!! OMG!!! So hideous. But I know HK is really huge in Japan.. so I guess this is probably really cool there. I know HK is expensive, too, so who knows? Maybe it’s our Vera Wang :) Just thought it was hilarious and had to post!

&& now.. a young boy’s skate-board themed party.. this is also for my friend’s son.. Caley (the rest of the info on the sample invites are bogus.. for security reasons!!) is her saughter and she has another son named Blake.. I’m working on all of their birthday invitations.. along with a party for my house, and a slew of greeting cards. Anyway, here’s my first sample:

I am proud of these because, using 5 different layers, the pencil tool, and pen tool, I free-handed that cupcake. Yeah buddy! I usually NEVER free hand anything. I keep telling my hubby I want a tablet PC so I can draw.. but I don’t think the cupcake looks that bad for my 1st free hand :)

UPDATE: Another one.. Can you tell that I like cupcake-themed things? :)

Now if she (my co-worker/friend) decides on one of these.. I’m sure we’ll decide (I say WE like I’m throwing the party, too, haha) on printing them on a cream or white card stock at 5″x7″ (that is the standard invite size & the size I created them) and then either trimming the edges on all 4 sides 1/4″ and putting them on a chocolate or pink cardstock… OR buying a slightly bigger back cardstock and not trimming the invite. These can even be jazzed up with added ribbon.. That’s cheap & easy.. But I think I’m going to work on some more cupcake styles then try the princess thing.. any suggestions?? Feedback??

Equally as important (in my opinion) as the layout & design of invites is the font! A bad font can ruin anything but a great font can make a plain invitation look classy, cute, sophisticated, scary, etc (depending on the look you are going for!).. So the fonts above are my favorite fonts for this project.. & I believe they are all additional fonts I found on the internet rather than what my PS3 came pre-loaded with. They each are cute in their own way. For my princess themed invites, I think a more structured font will make it look best.. meaning, less “hand written” looking. But we’ll see. Which fonts do you like for this project??

Also.. I’m taking ideas for MY SISTER‘S UPCOMING BIRTHDAY.. I’m going to make her a card ((Lindsay–I know you read this but it’s okay.. it’s not really a surprise!!)).. for the big 3-0! So send me tips if you have any :) And my old boss (the best boss in the whole world, literally!) is turning 40 in a couple of months so help me with that too, buddies!

UPDATE #2: I’m also working on some other things.. one of which is a Congratulations card for my sister-in-law and her husband.. I’m getting the cardstock to print it on tomorrow but working the different styles today. Here’s what I think I’m going with:

& yet another Baby’s 1st birthday invitation..

I’m not sure how much I am loving the red and pink but the cake stand and words being black just didn’t look right.. and bright pink on the pastel just made my eyes hurt! Is there a better color for this than red? Let me know :)

Edit: I want to make it clear that the wording “Have a sweet time at Caley’s 1st Birthday” wasn’t my idea. I’ve seen it on a lot of cupcake/sweets-themed invitations. So no, I’m not a creative wording genius. :)

I’m doing a maternity photoshoot on July 17th and I was thinking of doing a nametag on a ribbon around the pregnant belly. That and a “Do not open until ((due date))” tag on a ribbon around the belly. I’ve found a lot of cute examples of that on Flickr. The baby’s name is Kenzie so this was my first attempt at a name tag. Meh.

I got a new butterfly stamp and I wanted to try it out ((this was before the top picture, FYI)).. Only, what do you do with butterflies when you don’t have any little girls to make things for? Then I remember a woman I work with really likes butterflies, so I made a name-plate. Here I was testing layers, coloring stamps, gradients, and filters. It’s a pretty busy tag but it gave me a lot of good practice.

Stationary? A blank invitation? I don’t know.

Could be a format for a fun invitation. A friend of mine has been talking about maybe doing a more refined princess-themed party for her child and thus the royal theme carried over to this simple invitation today.

A small version of the background for a baby girl’s birthday invitation I was working on. Lots still has to be done but this was just a test at layers & color schemes. I like it but I like other stuff better.
